Cambodia

Another treat: spotted these woman, mat some distance, slowly walking in the shallows of the lake. After a few moments they formed a circle, drew close together and suddenly dropped so that their shoulders were below the surface. They then picked something out of the water and put it into their baskets ... fish I presume, but not easy to see. Unfortunately I did not get to=he whole sequence on one video so will try to upload both.

I sat down to take in the atmosphere at a hill top temple and thought I was alone ... until I spotted some children playing under a large tree. When I first noticed movement in the branches of this tree, I though it was made by children paying. On further investigation there is a woman who seems to be picking fruit, high in the upper limbs.

A trip to Battambang would not be complete without visiting the bat caves at dusk when millions of small bats (not the huge Fruit Bats I saw in Australia thank goodness) emerge and form a 'dragon'as they head off across the fields. The spectacle lasts for about half an hour.

Having hired a tuk tuk and driver for the morning, this was how he thought I should spend the first hour of my day .. on the Bamboo Train: no more than a flatbed cart on a very wobbly track, but great fun all the same! The temperatures were due to peak at 37 this afternoon with a 'feels like' factor taking it to 43C so I am dreading looking in the mirror as I fear I may be a little pink around the edges! Originally built to carry bamboo across the north of Cambodia, this is now really just a tourist attraction with drinks sold at either end of the 20 minute journey.

Making a drink at the side of the road. Not sure how my stomach is going to react to this ... time will tell! Note how the sugar cane is pressed several times and then the juice is collected in the green jug on our left. Ice is then added from the large box on the right ... delicious but a bit worrying on the health aspect!

New Zealand and Australia

Hot mud bubbling up from below ground in Rotorua, New Zealand.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching these guys in Newcastle in Australia... before there was a shark warning and the beach was closed ... for the next four days! Finally the Tiger Shark ate a dolphin and moved on ...

Possibly my favourite part of the trip so far: spending time observing Orca at close quarters, just off the coast at Kaikoura in New Zealand.
